The orchestra’s origins go back to 1897 with the founding of the Royale Harmonie Uccloise, which then became the Association Philharmonique d’Uccle in 1954. The orchestra is made up primarily of amateur musicians from a wide variety of backgrounds and currently numbers some 45 regular players.
The Association's aim is to bring to life orchestral music for and by music lovers of all ages through various partnerships inside and outside the municipality (schools, other ensembles, charities...). Besides giving regular concerts in Uccle, the orchestra has performed with other ensembles both in Belgium and abroad (the choir A Chantar from Louvain, Les petits chanteurs du collège Saint Pierre d’Uccle, the vocal ensemble Carloo Cantores, the Kammerorchester Rosenstein from Heubach, Germany).
Our repertoire ranges from overtures, symphonies and concertos to film music and more popular works, from the baroque period to the present day.
The first conductor was Paul Gason, followed by Fernand Terby, permanent conductor of the Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra, and from 1975 to 2010 by the trumpeter André Philippe. He was followed by Jérôme Schlesser (2011–2017), Gabriel Hollander (2017–2022). Since then, the musical direction has alternated between Charlotte Panouklia, Clio Zois, David Miller and Simon Thierrée.
